Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be one of the most powerful leaders of the world, but it seems he is not the most popular person on the internet in India. According to a list of most trending people in 2016 prepared by Google, PM Modi doesn’t even feature in the top 10.
It was woman power to the fore in 2016—seven of the top 10 personalities who were searched for on Google in India were women. The list included Olympians P.V.Sindhu, Dipa Karmakar and Sakshi Malik. Not surprisingly then, Rio Olympics 2016 emerged as the top trending search query on Google India in 2016, followed by Pokémon Go, a game that took the world by storm.
These were the top trending stories of 2016, according to Google, based on trillions of searches made by Indians over the year.
